Regine von Klitzing studied physics at the Technical University of Braunschweig and at the University of Göttingen, Germany. She received her doctorate from the University of Mainz, Germany, in 1996. Her postdoctoral stay (1996-1997) at the Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal (CRPP/CNRS) in Pessac/Bordeaux, France, was formative for her scientific development - a time that had a lasting influence on her understanding of interdisciplinary and international cooperation. After her habilitation at the Technische Universität (TU) Berlin, Regine von Klitzing was a group leader at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPI-KG) in Potsdam, Germany. From 2004 to 2006 she was an Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry at Kiel University, since 2006 she has been Associate Professor at TU Berlin and since 2010 Full Professor of Physical Chemistry (Chair). Regine von Klitzing has been a full professor at the Department of Physics at TU Darmstadt since 2017. There she established a new division for soft matter.
Regine von Klitzing's work focuses on the behaviour of complex liquids such as polyelectrolyte solutions or microgel dispersions at interfaces and in thin films. Together with her team, she has developed innovative experimental approaches to decipher the fundamental mechanisms of these systems. More recently, her team has focussed on investigating more complex systems such as foams on different length scales. Her main experimental expertise is in atomic force microscopy and scattering methods (neutron, x-ray, light).
Regine v. Klitzing is excited about working in the interdisciplinary fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering and Material Science. This takes place in continuous close cooperation in interdisciplinary networks with colleagues from Germany and abroad, in particular with various French research institutions (CEA, CNRS, ILL, LLB, University of Bordeaux).
